How the check works

  1. Find the ink

The background is the most common color along the edge. Ink is every pixel that matches its neighbors.

  2. Group the colors

Ink is clustered into the figure’s colors. Blurred edges join their color; lines and filled areas are told apart.

  3. Simulate vision

Each color as seen with deuteranopia, protanopia and tritanopia.

  4. Compare every pair

Two colors closer than ΔE 8 (CIEDE2000) clash. Thin lines and small markers need more difference than large areas.

  5. Check contrast

Lines and markers need 3:1 against the background. Grays and filled areas are not judged.

  6. Suggest colors

The closest safe colors that keep every pair apart in all four views.
